DoT seeks Attorney General's view on all companies matching auction price
Economic Times
The telecom department (DoT) is learnt to have sought the opinion of the highest law officer in the country on its plans to make it compulsory for all operators to match the auction-determined price for their existing 2G airwaves for remaining period of their licences. DoT has informally sounded out Attorney General Goolam Essaji Vahanvati on this issue, and plans to send a formal communication seeking the Law Ministry's views on this controversial proposal. The telecom department is close to finalising the guidelines for the upcoming airwaves sale and has decided to hold simultaneous, multiple-round auctions for each region, on similar lines as the third generation spectrum auctions in 2010.
