Why different stands on 2G bail: SC to CBI - Times of India

Days before the trial court verdict on bail pleas of DMK leader Kanimozhi and four others in the 2G spectrum scam case, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the CBI on what basis the agency was differentiating the case of the five from other accused, whose bail they are opposing in the apex court. Appearing for CBI, Additional Solicitor General Harin Raval said the cases of Kanimozhi and four others were different from other accused who were charged under Section 409 of Indian Penal Code (criminal breach of trust) punishable with a maximum of life imprisonment. The five, if found guilty, could face prison term up to five years, he said. The bench had more questions on the differentiation based on charges framed against the accused. Unimpressed, the bench asked how such a stand could be taken when the agency was accusing all of them of conspiring to cause loss to the country's exchequer. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email
